When I started this blog, I envisioned talking about kids, husband, work and volunteering. Somewhere along the line it has turned into Working Mom Meets “Family Guy.” It turns out that I like to write about things that are crass, gross, and politically incorrect. Sometimes I write about my kids. Often these two subjects meet up like a train wreck.
My name is Cathy Flynn, and I am a very VERY busy mom, sound editor, writer, volunteer, and optimist. I’m no Supermom, but I like to get a lot done in a short period of time.
I have three kids (6, 12, 16) in three different public schools, and with their age spread they will always be in three different schools. I am the dialogue editor for the ABC show Once Upon a Time, working from my bedroom on my home editing system. I am on the school site council of Colfax Charter Elementary School, as well as their PTA co-communications chairperson. I am also on the board of Neighborhood Council Valley Village. These positions enable me to write a column called Valley Village Report for North Hollywood/Toluca Lake Patch where I talk about events in my community which is located in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. I don’t have a nanny, cleaning lady, or gardener, so if I have a new blog it means I probably have a dirty toilet. Fortunately I have a low-maintenance husband who makes me laugh. I’m a sucker for funny.
This is not a blog about fashion, makeovers, recipes, crafts or interior decorating. I don’t have guest bloggers, and I don’t want to sell you anything – which is probably why I’m perpetually broke. I’m not trolling for comments, and because I am very VERY busy, there’s a very good chance that I won’t have time to comment on your blog either. I just hope I can make you laugh in 800 words or less.
Dear Ms. Flynn:
I am the editor of a forthcoming book, “LCNS2ROM – LICENSE TO ROAM: MY PERSONAL QU3ST 2 VANITIZE THE USA & CANADA 2! By Stefan Lonce (www.LCNS2ROM.com). I read your blog about your vanity plates, past & present and I love your story, and your plates! iWe would like to profile you for LCNS2ROM (here’s a link to a sample profile: http://lcns2rom.com/DONOR-DONEE%209-30-10.pdf (I think you will have to cut and past the links into your browser). Anyway, if you are interested, get back to me. THNX, [Mr.] M.H. Fryburg
Hello,
I came across your website and found your articles on your family wonderful. I just had a couple of questions, so if you could e-mail me back that would be great!
I’m sure you hear this a lot, but I am a huge fan of Once Upon a Time!
Oh my, three different schools. My daughter will be entering Kindergarten next year and her school will be right next to her brothers who is entering 6th. And she’s already talking about starting soccer and dance and “what about gymnastics mommy?” and with my son already involved in sports and the Hubs deployed, um…. Ok! I admire your juggling skills. =)
Anyway, enjoyed reading your About me and it sounds like you have a pretty entertaining blog so I look forward to checking it out.
Your writing is so humorous! I can feel your “ugh…” feeling throughout this post. So funny!!
Yes, being a single parent can keep you very busy, just remember that all those “Things” that you tinkn are so important don’t mean a hoot to our kids. Spend time with them and see how they light up and enjoy those smiles and laughs…. PS, Enjoy OAT also, great show hope it stays on.
Respectfully from Texas Now.
OMG – I didn’t mention my husband on my “About” page! Although I have been a single parent, I am now happily married to a very low-maintenance guy who helps me out tremendously. Don’t worry, Texas Now – my kids are my top priority and I will always attend a kid’s performance over a PTA meeting. The advantage of working from home is I can always take a break and pay attention to my kids. I just make up the time after they’ve gone to bed. Thank you for the reminder to appreciate their smiles.

I love a blog where people use real words to describe their world. Your good.
And another thing, I have no requests for you. I need not contact me in any way.
Am I allowed to comment on my own comment? I was just wondering why I’m the only one to “like” your About page.
